Recently we had the chance to collaborate with Sam Cowden and Zac Dixon from DC Productions to work on a promotional video for Dry Gourmet. Dry Gourmet is a start up company who has managed to come up with a pretty unique product. They are launching a dehydrated red wine for cooking for the 12 million recovering alcoholics in U.S. The only successful treatment for alcoholism is total abstinence, and that includes cooking wine. However, many recovering alcoholics are also foodies and enjoy cooking. This non-alcoholic cooking wine powder will allow them to indulge in continental cooking without the temptation that a bottle of wine would bring.
We set up two interviews. The first included the Kessler Crane Cineslider with the Revolution Head. This combination allowed us to program a dolly move while panning, creating a parallax camera movement around the suject. This subtle movement added a unique flare to the interview. I really can’t even say how amazing these products are. They are built rock solid and the possibilities are endless. Most use this system for timelapses, and its amazing for that, but I mostly use the system for live movements. Motorized camera movements are so much smoother and more precise than anything you can do by hand. This type of parallax move is something previously you could only do with a large dolly, such as a fisher dolly. The move has to be so subtle and slow, that its impossible to consistantly make the move throughout an interview. With the Kessler system and the Oracle controller, you can pre-program the move, and during the interview, simply press go and sit back and watch it move. I’m working on a tutorial on how to set this up, and some tricks to make things quick and easy.
Below are some behind the scenes images from the production.
