In January, we had the pleasure of shooting a promotional video for Stoney Creek Roasters. Taylor (the owner) wanted a quick video that he could place on the homepage of his website. So, one Sunday, when the store was closed, we came in, set up lights and just started rolling. We brought in some friends to drink the coffee Taylor made so it wouldn’t go to waste, and I’m pretty sure we all had too much by the end of the shoot…
This was one of the first shoots I used the Kessler Pocket Dolly on, and it performed beautifully. Adding subtle movement to product shots makes a huge difference. Video is all about movement, and when the objects you are shooting don’t move, you need to add some sort of camera movement, and that’s where this piece of gear adds so much.
For this piece we used the Canon 5D mark II with a 24mm 1.4, 50mm 1.4 , the 70-200 2.9 IS II, and the 24-70 2.8. Everthing was lit with one Lowel Rifa 500 watt softbox and one reflector. All in all, it was a pretty simple setup. We shot for 2 hours, and edited the piece that same day.
